DPH offering 1200 free radon test kits during the second week of January

The Connecticut State Department of Public Health (DPH) urges Connecticut residents to test their homes for radon gas, the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers. Health officials estimate that radon is responsible for more than 21,000 lung cancer deaths each year in the United States.

With Influenza Widespread in CT and 3 Flu-Related Deaths Already This Season, DPH Advises It’s Still Not Too Late To Get A Flu Shot
Influenza (flu) activity has rapidly increased in the past two weeks and has contributed to the deaths of three individuals in Connecticut over the age of 65 so far this season, according to the State Department of Public Health (DPH). Planned Parenthood of Southern New England renovates patient-centered medical home in Hartford
On Monday, October 23, 2017 Planned Parenthood of Southern New England (PPSNE) opened its doors to its new state-of-the-art health center in Hartford, Conn. PPSNE is at the same address – 1229 Albany Avenue in the North End of Hartford – but relocated its health center and education center across the hall to a completely renovated and redesigned space. The move comes on the heels of the health center receiving National Committee for Quality Assurance Patient-Centered Medical Home recognition for using evidence-based, patient-centered processes that focus on highly coordinated care and long?term, participative relationships.

CT Hospital Studies Link Between Diabetes and Pancreatic Cancer
Western Connecticut Health Network (WCHN) has just announced the launch of a $2.7 million 3-year research study that will investigate the link between new-onset diabetes and pancreatic cancer. The main goal is to detect the often lethal cancer at a curable stage. Pancreatic cancer is one of the most lethal of human malignancies, with five-year survival rates of only 8 percent. It is on a trajectory to become the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the US by 2020.
