Hartford Hospital marks surgery milestone
Pioneer robotic surgeon Dr. Joseph “Peppie” Wagner performed Hartford Hospital’s 5000th robotic surgery February 2nd at 8:30 am. The patient, Litchfield native Daniel Clark is recovering well. In 2003, Dr. Wagner brought robotic surgery to Hartford Hospital, which became the first hospital in Connecticut to bring the da Vinci Surgical System into the operating room.

General surgeon joins medical group at New Milford Hospital
Patrick Broderick, MD, President of Western Connecticut Medical Group, announces the appointment of Courtney E. Chambers, MD, FACS, a general surgeon who has served patients at New Milford Hospital since 2007, specializing in minimally invasive techniques, including hernia repair and other abdominal laparoscopic surgery. Stamford Health Department recognizes National Heart Health Month
The Stamford Department of Health and Social Services (SDHSS) recognizes February as National Heart Health Month to raise public awareness of risk factors for heart disease and stroke and to promote preventive measures. The community is encouraged to show support for National Wear Red Day on February 3rd by wearing red. The purpose of this national campaign is promote awareness of the leading cause of death among women – heart disease.

New music video aims to help kids to a healthier lifestyle
One-third of our nation’s children are overweight or obese. Moreover, today’s children are the first generation likely to have shorter life spans than their parents due to increased risks for associated complications including diabetes, heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure and asthma. Compounding this disturbing trend is the reduction of recess in as many as 40 percent of school districts across the United States, in an effort to focus on improving test scores.

Babies, moms and state DPH chief to celebrate Saint Raphael Birth Center’s birthday
A bevy of moms, babies and VIPs will celebrate the first birthday of the Dr. Romeo A. and Lena B. Vidone Birth Center at the Hospital of Saint Raphael on Friday, Feb. 10. Connecticut Department of Public Health Commissioner Jewel Mullen, M.D., is scheduled to attend the event, which also marks the Vidone Center’s designation as Baby-Friendly for promotion of breast feeding.
