Taking the lead in caring for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Hospital for Special Care (HSC) announced last week that The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) has recognized The Autism Center at Hospital for Special Care as the nation’s first Patient-centered Specialty Practice (PCSP). NCQA is recognizing The Autism Center at HSC for its responsiveness to patients and medical colleagues, cooperation and integration with other healthcare groups, and dedication to continuous improvement.

Research Institute Supports Cutting-Edge Cancer and Lyme Disease Research

On Friday, Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty (CT-5) toured the Western Connecticut Health Network’s Biomedical Research Institute and met with its team of scientists. The Research Institute supports cutting-edge cancer, proteomics, and Lyme disease research, and it houses the first Lyme disease data registry in the country. During the tour, Esty met with Dr. Matt Miller, Chief Medical Officer; Dr. Paul Fiedler, Chairman of Pathology; Dr. Cristiano Ferlini, Rudy and Sally Ruggles Endowed Chair of Cancer Research; and Dr. Thomas Rutherford, Ph.D., the Network Physician Director of Cancer Services, in addition to global research scholars working at the Institute.
