Hovering-Gersch-med082014.jpg
Lifelong passions in different mediums mark this month’s art exhibition at Wilton Library entitled “Aerial Grace & Altered Views: Karen E. Gersch and Pam Rouleau,” opening Friday, September 5, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. As a painter, Karen E. Gersch captures the dynamics and poetics of life under the big top with her portraits and scenics of acrobats, aerialists, jugglers and clowns. Award-winning photographer Pam Rouleau strays from conventional image-making, exploring historical and alternative photographic processes. Together their works bring a rich palette of color and texture to the walls of Wilton Library.

Songwriter/actor Chris Isaak returns to rock The Ridgefield Playhouse on Wednesday, September 3
CHRIS_ISAAK_SEPT_3_2014_RED_SUIT_WITH_GUITAR_.jpg
Songwriter/actor Chris Isaak clearly loves the reverb-laden rockabilly and country of Sun Studios. In particular, he transfers the sweeping melancholy of Roy Orbison’s classic singles ("Crying", "Oh, Pretty Woman", "In Dreams") to the more stripped-down, rootsy sound of Sun, resulting in a stylized take on '50s and '60s rock & roll that made Isaak into a star in the early '90s, propelled to a great degree by the hit single "Wicked Game". On Wednesday, September 3, at 8 p.m., Chris Isaak will showcase his smooth, dusky baritone voice and effortless brand of cool at The Ridgefield Playhouse. Isaak wows audiences worldwide with rock songs including "Baby Did A Bad Bad Thing" not to mention his hit “Somebody’s Crying”. His latest album, Beyond the Sun, pays tribute to the roots of rock 'n' roll. An AllShows.com VIP Party Pass ($25 addt'l per person), which includes a cocktail party from 6:30 – 7:15 p.m. with open bar, hors-d’oeuvre and priority parking, is available for this show by calling the box office (203-438-5795). This event is part of the Doyle Coffin Architecture Singer/Songwriter and Xfinity Rock Series.

Free Outdoor Shakespeare in Stamford begjns tonight, July 10
Everything old is new again...cliché? Maybe. But in Curtain Call's case, it's very true. Shakespeare's plays are indeed old, and yes, TWELFTH NIGHT was the local arts organization's very first Shakespeare on the Green production, but this year's production is very new. Though the language is "the Bard's", the setting is present day. And while in many of his plays, messages are sent between lovers and/or enemies through emissaries - in this case, Shakespeare's messages pop up on cell phones and I-pads.
