Stamford's Ferguson Library's Adult Summer Reading Club Finale will feature the music of Swamp Gumbo, a New Orleans-style party band, on Wednesday, August 13 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Library's Harry Bennett Branch. (Special reception for members with invitation at 6:30 p.m.)

Danbury Mayor proclaims July 26-27 ‘Beatles Weekend’
DANBURY, CT - In celebration of the 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ arrival in America, a Beatles-themed music festival, “Danbury Fields Forever,” will be on Saturday and Sunday, July 26 and 27, at Ives Concert Park on the Western Connecticut State University Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. Danbury Mayor Mark D. Boughton will be at the festival at 2 p.m. on Saturday to issue a proclamation stating that it is “Beatles Weekend” in the Hat City.

Governor Malloy announces "Free State Parks Weekend" this Saturday and Sunday
All Parking and Museum Fees Waived This Weekend as Part of Celebration of State Parks Centennial

Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Commissioner Robert Klee today announced that as part of the ongoing celebration of the state parks centennial, this upcoming Saturday and Sunday – July 26 and 27 – will be “Free State Parks Weekend” in Connecticut. For the weekend, all parking and museum fees will be waived throughout Connecticut’s state park system.

Micky Dolenz does it all -- actor, musician, television director, radio personality, Broadway star and director! But his claim to fame stems from The Monkees where he shot to celebrity status as lead singer and drummer in the fabulous ‘60s! Dolenz brought us “Last Train to Clarksville”, “I’m a Believer” and “Daydream Believer”. The multi-talented Dolenz will entertain at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Friday, August 1, at 8 p.m. offering music lovers of all ages a chance to witness stardom at its finest. Shakespeare's plays are indeed old, and yes, TWELFTH NIGHT was the local arts organization's very first Shakespeare on the Green production, but this year's production is very new. Though the language is "the Bard's", the setting is present day. And while in many of his plays, messages are sent between lovers and/or enemies through emissaries - in this case, Shakespeare's messages pop up on cell phones and I-pads.

Bonnie will discuss love letters exchanged between artist Julian Alden Weir and his then fiancée Anna Dwight Baker during the summer of 1882. In the letters, Julian and Anna express their deep affection for each other, their observations of nature, and nature’s role in fostering the bond between them. Enjoy a walk through the lush, summer landscape of Weir Farm National Historic Site as you learn about the connection between art, love, and landscape that fundamentally affected Weir’s appreciation of his Branchville farm.
