Award-winning artists display work at Rowayton Arts Center

"The Highliners," a color photograph by Robert Sachs of Norwalk, was awarded Best in Show for the Photography & Sculpture exhibition that opened June 3 at the Rowayton Arts Center. "The composition, color and detail are really wonderful," said photographer-teacher Jane McWhorter, who selected the winning artwork from 37 photography entries and six sculptures. "I feel that the four people are totally isolated from each other while still occupying the same space. The artist captured a very 'city' moment when people in a public place can be completely uninvolved with anyone but themselves."

The Color Photography winners are: 1st - Shavkat Inagamov (New York City), who was selected as a new RAC exhibiting member in May, 2nd - Marcy Juran (Westport), and 3rd - Gaile Ramey (Branford). Black & White Photography awards went to: 1st - Shamik Ganguly (Stamford) and 2nd - Tony Velez (Norwalk). Pierre Lahaussois (Rowayton) is the first place Sculpture winner.

The exhibition at the RAC Gallery, 145 Rowayton Avenue, continues through June 24, and features high-quality photography and sculpture by RAC exhibiting members. Gallery hours are 12:00-5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday (closed Monday). Admission is free.

Other artists in the exhibition are (by town): Darien – Joanna Bridges, Nancy Cammann, Bruce Horan, Ben Larrabee, Pam Lindbert, James Ryan; Fairfield – Linda Kane Brinckerhoff (a new exhibiting member), Janine Brown; Greenwich – Robert Genna; New Canaan – Antoinette Vardamis; Norwalk – Ginny Awn, Irwin Block, Kathy Draper, Laura Dunne, Bill Jones, Jim Kahnweiler (a new exhibiting member), Gillian Marshall, Dona Menton, Richard Ventre; Rowayton – Ilana Appleby, Betty Ball, Hanneke Goedkoop, Lisa Grant, Margo Kirby, Lisa Laible, Dana Laird, Andrea Letters, Rick Pank, Jeannette Young Pertz; Stamford – Susan Acker, Sandy Gennrich; Westport – Judith Orseck Katz, Susan Spivack; Wilton – Natalie Timoshian.
