John Mayall received a Gold Record for his The Turning Point album, which featured “Room To Move”. John Mayall will be in concert at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Saturday, July 7, at 8 p.m. Special guest is Christopher Robin.
John Mayall was honored with a Gold Record for The Turning Point, which featured the single “Room To Move”. Known as "Father of British Blues", John Mayall was the creator and leader of the Bluesbreakers and helped to discover some of the best rock and blues players of our time including Eric Clapton, John Weider, Peter Green, Mick Fleetwood, Mick Taylor and John McVie. Music mentor Mayall will show off his prowess at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Saturday, July 7, at 8 p.m. Special guest is southern rock and blues performer Christopher Robin who has played and collaborated with B.B. King, Robert Cray, Charlie Daniels and Peter Frampton. The Bissell House (383 Main St., Ridgefield) is offering a free glass of house wine the night of the show when tickets are shown. This concert is part of the Guinness Black Lager Rock Series.

John Mayall may very well go down in music history as putting blues on the map all over the world and surrounding himself with the very best musicians in the business. He is still forging new trails due in great part to his mastery of singing, writing and playing the blues (on multiple instruments). His career covers five decades the most notable of which occurred in the late '60s. In the ’70s, he moved to Los Angeles and released The Turning Point, the album that featured the rock classic "Room To Move", which went Gold. Mayall’s current band includes his latest guitar discovery from Texas, Rocky Athas, and his hard-hitting blues rhythm section from Chicago including Greg Rzab on bass and Jay Davenport on drums. Mayall is on keyboards, organ, harmonica, guitar and vocals.

Mayall has released a slew of albums and singles including Stories (peaked at #1 on Billboard®), In the Palace of the Kings (peaked at #3) and Road Dogs (peaked at #4). Following collaborations with myriad guest celebrities, in the early '80s he re-teamed with a couple of his more renowned vets John McVie and Mick Taylor for a tour, which was chronicled by Great American Music's Blues Express, released in 2010. In 2005, Mayall was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the Honours List.
