Norwalk, CT - It just doesn’t add up! Pure Chaos is about to descend on Stepping Stones Museum for Children and the award-winning children’s museum is… excited? Well, “sum” of the reason for that excitement is because the smiles and laughter will multiply when West Hyler, writer and associate director of Cirque du Soleil’s Paramour and associate director of Broadway's Jersey Boys and How the Grinch Stole Christmas, debuts his new show Pure Chaos: The Math Musical for an exclusive run at Stepping Stones.

This raucous new musical, which will have a five-day run at Stepping Stones from Saturday, May 11 through Wednesday, May 15, is the second installment of the museum’s new WOW! (or Worlds of Wonder!) series of events. The WOW! Series is a specially-curated group of engaging, exciting museum performances and experiences designed to help enhance children’s understanding of our world. The WOW! Series events will help Stepping Stones present enriching content and address important topics in a fun, amusing and entertaining manner.

If ever there was a formula for pure fun while learning, Pure Chaos is it! Pure Chaos is a musical for Grades 5 and up that takes intimidating mathematical concepts and presents them in fun and original ways sure to excite young audiences about math. The hybrid musical-circus show centers on one core goal: illustrating the math and physics of the world in an original, fun, and musical way. Combining circus skills, such as juggling swords and a bowling ball and yo-yo tricks, with musical numbers, Pure Chaos demonstrates the math and physics involved in manipulating everyday objects through space. The show is highly physical, as well as musical, with original songs written by a group of young musical theatre composers that includes Emmy Award-winning, Grammy Award-nominated talent.

Pure Chaos features three characters (Newton, Pythagoras and Pi) who find themselves in greater and greater conflict as they realize they share competing ideologies of a mathematical world view. To Pythagoras, Math is a rational system that proves order, while Newton, a bit of a rock star, believes that Math is chaotic and proves disorder. Their back-and-forth discussions are frequently interrupted by a Private Investigator (Pi) who has uncovered the secrets of Math and presents a world view that allows the paradox of chaos and the order of rational math to co-exist together within a single system. Our audience will make amazing math discoveries right along with the characters during this extremely fun and engaging show.

The unmissable, madcap, mathematical mayhem comes to Stepping Stones on May 11. Pure Chaos will have a five-day run at the museum, with weekend performances at 3:00 pm on Saturday, May 11 and Sunday, May 12 and weekday performances at 11:00 am from Monday, May 13 through Wednesday, May 15. Tickets costs $10 per person for members and $15 per person for non-members. The Group Rate for 10 or more is $8. (Regular museum admission, which is free for members and an additional $15 per person for non-members, is optional.)

Pure Chaos equates to the perfect field trip for schools and groups. Reserving group rates is as easy as “pi.” Simply call 203 899 0606, ext. 282, visit the museum’s Welcome Desk or visit www.steppingstonesmuseum.org/math for more information or to purchase tickets.
