This group whose bloodlines run deep with musicality will be bringing their thrilling new brand of blues-rock and white hot musicianship from the southern states onto the world stage, making a stop at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Wednesday, July 11, at 8 p.m. Their summer album release is The Royal Southern Brotherhood, a brilliant pairing of the Neville and Allman talent pools. Special guest is Johnny Boots, Connecticut's big sounding power trio that plays driving, blues-infused rock. A Guinness Black Lager tasting kicks off the evening in the Playhouse lobby at 7:15 p.m. Southwest Café (109 Danbury Rd., Ridgefield) is offering a free margarita at dinner the night of the show when tickets are shown. This concert is part of the Guinness Black Lager Rock Series.

Royal Southern Brotherhood is a New Orleans based supergroup that features Grammy® Award winning Neville Brother Cyril Neville, son of rock legend Greg Allman Devon Allman, Mike Zito of Derek Trucks Band, bassist Charlie Wooten and drummer Yonrico Scott. With a bloodline that flows from Professor Long Hair to Muddy Waters, Mississippi Fred McDowell to Gov’t Mule, and Allman’s southern Jam Rock to the Neville Brother's Southern Soul music, the Royal Southern Brotherhood keeps a long music lineage burning bright.

“The ensemble is creating music that is simultaneously progressive and traditional - rock, blues, and funk flow freely - yet sounds distinct from their individual repertoires…”, wrote The Boston Globe.

This is how it happened: In 2010, the Neville Brothers’ vocalist and percussionist, Grammy® award-winning Cyril Neville found himself once again at the helm of the jam rock scene when he began fronting hipster funk group Galactic. The union with Galactic came immediately following a "Song of the Year" Blues Music Award for “Pearl River”, co-written with Mike Zito. In 2011, Devon Allman and Mike Zito, two bandleader/guitarists who knew of each other from growing up and playing shows in and around St. Louis, met with Cyril Neville in New Orleans and Royal Southern Brotherhood was formed. Devon Allman's guitar style is reminiscent of his uncle Duane's with the soulfulness of Carlos Santana. Mike Zito comes from the school of blues-rock. His style has been compared to that of Albert King and Walter Trout.
