The Avon Theatre presents the first feature from its own Director of Communications and local filmmaker, Bridget Stokes, titled Herman & Shelly. This screening will celebrate the launch of the film digitally and on DVD on July 17th and is the last opportunity to see the film in a movie theatre setting. There will be a post-film Q&A with the filmmaker. Carte Blanche: FREE, Members: $6, Students & Seniors: $8, Nonmembers: $11.

In this offbeat, quirky romantic comedy, high school chums Herman and Shelly navigate the odd transition from much-hyped youthful art prodigies to overlooked adult artists. Ambitions are pitted against lifelong bonds, with the zany mess of the art world acting as an ever-changing backdrop. A fresh take on coming of age, the murky space between lovers and friends, and the personal sacrifices endured for one's art.

Prior to writing and directing Herman & Shelly, Bridget Stokes, produced the short film Oui Oui Non Non (2011) and Coffee (2008), both written and directed by Vicky Wight. Coffee was an official selection at 2008’s SXSW Film Festival and screened at New York’s IFC Center. Stokes began working in film distribution at IFC Films and then moved to the independent film production, distribution and sales company, Elephant Eye Films, as Director of Production/Development & Distribution. Bridget then signed on as Research Coordinator on Jonathan Demme’s Untitled Bob Marley project and worked on the distribution of several documentaries through BEV Pictures, a film distribution company she co-founded. Currently Bridget Stokes is producing another feature film locally titled The Volunteer, she’s the Director of Communications at The Avon Theatre and teaches Screenwriting, Producing and Directing at the University of Hartford.
