The discovery of the wreckage of the RMS Titanic in 1985 piqued playwright, Maury Yeston's interest in writing a musical about the famous disaster. "What drew me to the project was the positive aspects of what the ship represented – 1) humankind's striving after great artistic works and similar technological feats, despite the possibility of tragic failure, and 2) the dreams of the passengers on board: 3rd Class, to immigrate to America for a better life; 2nd Class, to live a leisured lifestyle in imitation of the upper classes; 1st Class, to maintain their privileged positions forever. The collision with the iceberg dashed all of these dreams simultaneously, and the subsequent transformation of character of the passengers and crew had, it seemed to me, the potential for great emotional and musical expression onstage”. Warner Stage Company Production Manager, Sharon A. Wilcox has taken the production of this community theatre performance to a new level: arranging a “field trip” to Pier 54 in NYC where the TITANIC was to dock, producing a “Making of the TITANIC” exhibit and researching CT ties to TITANIC survivors. Bob Lussier, Walter Cramer and Dan Porri will portray the captain, Director of the White Star Line and designer of the Titanic respectively. Other cast members include: Damon Branco (playing Frederick Barrett, Stoker), Richard Damaso (Harold Bride, Radioman) and Janette Ireland, Jamie M. Weisberg and Erica Blasko as Kate McGowan, Kate Murphy and Kate Mullins. Photos/videos of the cast and production can be seen on the Warner Theatre Facebook page. Director Rick Doyle, Music Director, TJ Thompson and Choreographer, Ronald K. Alexander and their cast of 75+ will bring this epic story to the Warner stage on Sat, Feb 4 & 11 at 8pm,Sun, Feb 5 at 2pm and Fri, Feb 10 at 8pm.
