State Representative James Albis (D-East Haven) announces that The Shoreline Preservation Task Force will be holding local public hearings this summer in Branford, Fairfield and Groton.

The bipartisan legislative task force is studying the effects of extreme storm events and rising sea levels on Connecticut’s shoreline and what steps can be taken by state and local officials and the public to deal with storm issues.

The task force has been meeting since February of this year and is holding public hearings to listen to the concerns and recommendations of local residents, business owners and other concerned citizens.

“The public hearings will allow the task force to hear from local residents about how rising sea levels and extreme storms events are actually affecting their property and their community’s shoreline and beaches,” Rep. Albis, Task Force Chairman, said. “We want to hear from the people who live and work in these communities about what should be done now and in the future to deal with these issues.”

The task force is expected to make recommendations for next year’s legislative session. For more information please contact Paul Summers at the Legislative Office Building at (800) 240-8522 or Paul.Summers@cga.ct.gov.

· Monday, July 9, 2012, at the Blackstone Library, 758 Main Street, Branford, at 6:00 pm.

· Monday, July 23, 2012, at the Penfield Pavilion, 323 Fairfield Beach Road, Fairfield, at 6:00 pm.
