“This year, some of the most closely watched primary contests in the country are happening right here in Connecticut,” said Secretary Merrill, Connecticut’s chief elections official. “I encourage all registered voters to come out to the polls on Tuesday and take part in deciding which names appear on the ballot this November. All eligible, Connecticut citizens need to register in-person at town offices by Monday at noon in order to have a say in who will be on the ballot this November. Unnafiliated voters can also enroll by Monday at noon, and 17 year-olds are also allowed to vote in this primary if they will turn 18 on or before November 6th. We have crucial issues such as the economy and our state budget at stake, so next Tuesday is a great opportunity to make your voice heard.” Secretary Merrill is also reporting that since January 1, 2012, some 57,474 new voters have registered to vote, bringing the total number of active registered voters in Connecticut to 1,968,790. This figure includes 723,035 Democrats, 412,509 Republicans and 818,703 unaffiliated voters. Among new voters, some 18,659 have registered as Democrats, while 11,553 have registered as Republicans. A total of 26,004 new voters have registered as unaffiliated voters. A complete breakdown of current voter registration numbers follows at the bottom of this news release. Polls will open from 6:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. for at least 23 primaries on August 14th. Absentee ballots are now available and in order to be counted for the municipal primary, they must be received by Town Clerks’ offices no later than 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday August 14, 2012. Voters can go to the Secretary of the State’s website www.sots.ct.gov to see if they are registered to vote and where their polling place is located. © Copyright by ShorelinePlus.com.
