Men's Youth Quad: Coach Volodymyr Opalnyk, Michael Magid, Steven Ross, Dan Crowley Justin Podlesak, and Coach Yan Vengerovskiy
New Canaan dominated the Men’s Quad Sculling event at the Northeast Regional Regatta in Worchester, MA when Peter Tortora, Graham Mink, Alex Buck and Jonathon Rossow crushed their closest competition and winning the gold medal with 15.5 seconds to spare. New Canaan was in the lead from the beginning to the end, making their win look easy. Their team mates Geoff Cloud, Tucker Klutey Alex Mauboussin, and Steven Gerasimoff cruised to a third place finish earning a coveted spot at the US Rowing’s National Regatta in Oak Ridge, TN in mid-June.

All in all New Canaan would take 3 gold medals, seed 15 boats in final events, and qualify nine boats for Nationals.

Ned Berman, Sam Wiley Tim Mapley and Carson West with their cox Ashwini Rao continued the winning streak in the Men’s Four in one of the most exciting finals of the day, edging out Norwalk River Rowing by less than two seconds.

New Canaan showed it’s depth in the Youth Men’s Quad event. Four of the six boats in the final were wearing New Canaan’s red and black placing first, second, fourth and sixth. Justin Podlesak, Dan Crwoley, Steven Ross and Michael Magid beat out their team mates Nicholas Reynoso, Justin Vasquez, Zev Koffsky, and Gabriel Marsan to finish first and second.

Blake Lang and Ross Hurlock moved up from JV to race in the Men’s Varsity Double. They raced hard and earned bronze medals and with that, the opportunity to represent Connecticut at Nationals.

Women's Youth Quad - silver medalist: Jenna Froland, Madison Yancy, Hannah Foley, Caroline Cone and Coach Yan Vengerovskiy
Alex Richmond, Jack Winslow, Alex Vernon, Evan Turiano, Luke Thompson, Billy Curley, Eddy Nilan, Merritt Cullman with their cox Ashwini Rao will make the trek to TN with their 3rd place finish.

In the Women’s Youth Quad, Caroline Cone, Hannah Foley, Madison Yancy and Jenna Froland brought home a silver medal.

Bea Tobey and Veronica Hoeft placed 4th in the Women’s Double Sculls just behind Saratoga Springs. However, Saratoga qualified for Nationals at the New York’s State Championships so Bea and Veronica advance to Nationals.

“This weekend we showed winning efforts at every level of racing,” said Coach Yan Vengerovskiy. We could ask for nothing more of our kids. This sets us up for great racing in Tennessee.”
