Bluefish falls in Texas

Sugar Land, TX - The Bridgeport Bluefish (30-39) suffered the second loss of the series against the Sugar Land Skeeters (29-40) as the home team won by a score of 6-2 from Constellation Field on Saturday. Bridgeport is now 4-5 against Sugar Land this season.

The Bluefish scored a run in the sixth and eighth innings. Brock Peterson had a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded and the road team down by two. Eddie Rogers connected for a solo shot to left in the eighth. It was the fifth homer of the year by the shortstop as he picked up two hits on the night. Angel Flores reached twice for Bridgeport as he picked up a hit and a walk on Saturday. Prentice Redman, Shea Hillenbrand, Peterson and James Simmons each collected one hit on Saturday.

Sugar Land scored four of the teams’ six runs with two outs. The only other runs scored were on solo homers by Iggy Suarez in the seventh and Jason Lane in the eighth. Lane finished with three hits and three runs scored. Manny Mejia drove in two runners while providing three hits. Bubba Bell and Matt Hagen drove in the other runners.

Bluefish starter, Chris Hayes (0-2), suffered the defeat as the righthanded pitcher delivered six innings of four run, nine hit and two strikeout baseball. Julio DePaula came out of the bullpen and allowed one run on one hit and a walk while fanning one in the seventh. Dan Serafini surrendered one run in the eighth as he gave up his first homer of the season.

Skeeters starter, Bobby Livingston (9-2), earned the win for the home team as the hurler completed six innings and gave up one run, four hits and two walks while fanning seven Bridgeport batters. Jusef Frias, Roberto Giron and Gary Majewski combined to throw the rest of the game. The tandem tossed three frames while Bridgeport produced one run on three hits while striking out twice

Bridgeport finishes the first half of the Atlantic League Sugar Land on Saturday. First pitch from Constellation Field is slated for 7:05 PM. Bridgeport is expected to send righthanded starter, Raymar Diaz (1-7, 8.31 ERA), to the hill as he is opposed by Sugar Land lefthanded hurler, Heath Phillips (1-5, 3.86 ERA). Bluefish fans can listen to the game on bridgeportbluefish.com. The voice of the Bridgeport Bluefish, Perry Miles, will have the call of the action. The pre-game show airs twenty minutes before each first pitch.
