Camden, NJ - The Bridgeport Bluefish (12-5) earned a series victory against the Camden Riversharks (7-10) on Saturday in a 13-8 triumph.

Bridgeport got off to a fast start as the team scored four times in the first. With runners at first and second, Prentice Redman served a bloop single to right to push Joey Gathright to the plate. Collin DeLome followed by smacking a three-run homer to right to put Bridgeport ahead 4-0.

After Camden put a run on the board in the bottom of the first, Bridgeport pushed two more runners across in the second. The frame was highlighted by an RBI single from Jones to left and a bases loaded walk to DeLome to push the lead to five.

The Riversharks put one more on the board in the second before the Bluefish produced three more in the next two innings. Gathright came up with a double to right to drive in the first run of the third and Jones delivered a single to center to plate Gathright in the same frame. A fielders’ choice grounder by Eddie Rogers in the fourth got the ninth run home.

Camden responded with five runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to cut the deficit to 9-8. Shea harris contributed an RBI single to left in the fourth and Lloyd Turner produced an RBI on a fielders’ choice grounder before Camden got back-to-back homers with one out. Drew Macias jolted a two-run shot to rightcenter and Brian Burgamy lifted a solo shot to the same part of the ballpark in the fourth inning. Jake Eigsti lined a solo shot to rightcenter in the fifth to close the gap to one.

The Bluefish, though, were able to put insurance runs across in the seventh. Luis Lopez served an RBI single to left, with runners at first and second, to push the Jones to the plate. On a throwing error to try to nail Jones, the runners moved up due to an error by corner outfielder Steven Doetsch. A sacrifice fly by Brock Peterson to rightcenter made the score 11-8.

Gathright gave Bridgeport more of a cushion in the eighth as the centerfielder served his first homer of the year. The two-run drive to right accounted for the final runs of the night.

Bridgeport starter Tobi Stoner (1-1) struggled but picked up the win for the Bluefish. He worked five innings and allowed eight runs, twelve hits and a walk while fanning four. Joe Bateman was nearly flawless out of the bullpen for the Bluefish. He gave up one walk and struck out four in two scoreless frames. Rommie Lewis allowed a hit in a scoreless eighth while Camden produced one hit and no runs against Jonah Bayliss in the ninth

Camden starter Sean Jarrett (2-2) suffered the loss as the righthander surrendered eight runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out three in completing three innings. The bullpen combined to toss six innings of five-run, six hit, five-walk and four strikeout baseball the rest of the way.

The Bluefish start a series against the Somerset Patriots on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 in the evening. Bluefish fans can listen to the contest live on bridgeportbluefish.com.
