Bridgeport, CT - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the signing of pitcher Dan Serafini. Serafini makes his way back to Bridgeport for his second season in the Atlantic League and 19th of professional baseball.

“Dan is a veteran pitcher that has enjoyed much success during his entire career,” says Bluefish manager Willie Upshaw. “He will be a tremendous asset to our pitching staff and we’re glad to have him back.”

Serafini started the 2012 campaign splitting time between Monterrey and Aguascalientes of the Mexican League, appearing in a combined 11 games (nine starts) and posted a 4-3 record with 35 strikeouts in 48 innings of work. The former Major Leaguer made his Park City debut in 2010 with the ‘Fish and appeared in 11 games (seven starts), recording a record of 4-1 with a 3.42 ERA and 39 punchouts over the course of 50 innings pitched. At the age of 24, Dan recorded his standout season in the Major Leagues with the Minnesota Twins in 1998. In 28 games, he posted a 7-4 record with 46 strikeouts through 75 innings of work. The lefthander spent seven seasons in the big leagues, also playing for the Chicago Cubs, San Diego Padres, Pittsburgh Pirates, Cincinnati Reds and Colorado Rockies. In 104 career Major League appearances, the 36-year-old has recorded 15 wins with 127 strikeouts over 263.2 innings pitched. Serafini was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the first round (26th overall) of the 1992 amateur draft.

In a corresponding roster move, the Bluefish have released infielder Dan Poletsky.
