Bridgewater, NJ - The Bridgeport Bluefish (26-35) won the teams’ first contest since the franchises’ 1,000th victory as the road squad defeated the Somerset Patriots (29-32) by a score of 10-4 at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday. Bridgeport is now 3-5 against Somerset this season.

Bridgeport was trailing 3-2 entering the top of the seventh when the Bluefish exploded for seven runs on seven hits in that frame. Kennard Jones, Luis Rodriguez, James Simmons, Luis Lopez, and Prentice Redman collected RBI in the inning with Redman driving in two.

Lopez smacked a solo shot in the first inning and drove in three runs on the night while picking up three hits and scoring twice. Brock Peterson and Rodriguez produced three hit nights for the winning side while Redman, James Simmons and Susini came up with a couple of hits on Friday. Susini came to the plate twice while Simmons and Redman drove in two Bluefish runners. Every Bridgeport starter except Eddie Rogers picked up a hit and seven Bluefish hitters scored a run.

Dan DeGeorge smacked a solo shot to left in the fourth and a Yunesky Sanchez fielders’ choice RBI grounder to the shortstop Eddie Rogers allowed two runs to score in the fourth. Jeff Nettles had an RBI single in the sixth to give Somerset a brief lead while Freddie Bynum smacked a solo shot to right in the eighth.

Bridgeport starter Paul Oseguera completed five innings and allowed two runs on five hits in the process of striking out nine opposing batters but did not factor in the decision. Juan Rincon (1-0) made his 2012 Bluefish debut and picked up the victory even though he allowed one run on two hits and a walk in the sixth. Jesse English delivered two innings of one run, two hit and three strikeout baseball. Julio DePaula made his Bluefish debut on Friday and fanned two while giving up a hit in the ninth.

Somerset hurler, Paul Phillips, did not factor in the decision as the righthanded starter surrendered two runs and seven hits in six frames. The righthander struck out six Bluefish batters. Derell McCall (2-4) suffered the loss as Bridgeport pushed across seven runs (six earned) on six hits and a walk while striking out a batter and retiring two hitters. The Bluefish scored one run on four hits and struck out once against Chase Wright in the final two-and-a-third innings.

The Bluefish continue a four-game road series against the Somerset Patriots on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
