Simmons, Peterson help Bluefish to win

York, PA - The Bridgeport Bluefish (9-8, 40-47) jumped out to a 5-0 lead and held on for a 9-6 victory against the York Revolution (9-9, 45-43) at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Tuesday. Bridgeport is 8-10 against York this season.

The game was delayed for one hour and sixteen minutes before the road team secured the victory.

Much of the offense on Tuesday came from James Simmons. He matched a season high by hitting two homers. His first shot was a two-run blast to rightcenter in the second and his last one was a solo blast to left in the fourth. He has picked up seven homers in the last eight road games. The centerfielder drove in three runs on the night and scored three times. Brock Peterson produced two hits, drove in two on a triple to center in the first, and scored a run. Eddie Rogers brought in three runs and collected two singles and a double in the contest while Luis Lopez brought in the only other runner on the night. Joey Gathright came to the plate twice and earned three singles for the winning side. Luis Figueroa capped off the night with two hits.

York first baseman, Chris Nowak, smacked two homers to left, in the second and fourth frames, and drove in three runs while Joe Thurston served a solo drive to right in the fifth. The third baseman reached base three times Salomon Manriquez brought in the only other runner for the losing team on the night.

Bridgeport starter, Dan Serafini (4-2), broke his two game losing streak as the southpaw completed five innings while surrendering four runs on four hits and three walks while fanning three. Four relievers supported the Bluefish starter by tossing four frames of two run, three hit, three walk, and five strikeout baseball. Juan Rincon notched his fourth save of the year with a scoreless ninth.

Revolution starter, Corey Thurman (9-3), suffered the loss as the righthanded hurler allowed six runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out one in four innings of work. Three pitchers combined for the last four innings of the contest. The Bluefish batters produced three runs on seven hits and one walk while fanning six times against the York tandem.

The Bluefish continue a three game series with the York Revolution on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30. Bluefish fans can listen to the contest on bridgeportbluefish.com. Bridgeport righthanded starter Raymar Diaz (2-9, 7.34 ERA) goes up against York lefthanded hurler Chris Waters (2-3, 5.90 ERA). The voice of the Bridgeport Bluefish, Perry Miles, will have the call of the action. The pre-game show airs twenty minutes before each first pitch.
