The Stamford Public Education Foundation (SPEF) announced today that it has been approved to receive a grant of $22,125 from the Fairfield County Community Foundation (FCCF) in support of SPEF’s community outreach and advocacy efforts.

In line with FCCF’s long-term focus on helping local nonprofit organizations improve their effectiveness and sustainability, this generous donation will facilitate the development and implementation of SPEF’s marketing and communications strategy. By facilitating discussions with students, parents, community members, existing and potential funders, educators and administrators, SPEF will help the community identify and examine education-related issues and explore ways to effectively address those issues. Conversations will be focused primarily on student success and outcome measurements of student success and will seek to identify ways to increase the performance and post secondary school success for all students in Stamford’s Public Schools (SPS).

As part of the marketing and communications plan, the funding will allow SPEF to develop a comprehensive donor database, create a new website and monthly e-newsletter and host community conversations focusing on improving student success.

About SPEF:

SPEF's mission is to support the students and teachers in Stamford’s Public Schools through community collaboration and philanthropy. Through its activities, the Foundation positively impacts every SPS student's learning experience to help them achieve their full potential.

As a Local Education Foundation (LEF), SPEF is a member of the national Public Education Network (PEN) and the Connecticut Consortium of Education Foundations (CTCEF), and works closely with the LEFs in Bridgeport, Norwalk, Hartford and Yonkers to leverage their expertise and adapt successful strategies and programs for local use. The Bridgeport, Norwalk and Yonkers LEFs have been instrumental in helping SPEF shape its strategy and direction in the past year. SPEF is well positioned to engage the community in discussion and lead some of the difficult conversations that need to take place. Stamford’s prosperity is increasingly precarious because of the threatened health and effectiveness of our public schools. Our community is complex and the academic needs are diverse. Ensuring success for all students is challenging and achievable. It takes strong partnerships, active collaboration and open dialogue among all community members to lead the way to a healthy and robust public school system.

About the Donor:

The Fairfield County Community Foundation promotes the growth of community and regional philanthropy to improve the quality of life throughout Fairfield County. Individuals, families, corporations and organizations can establish charitable funds and contribute to existing funds. The Foundation also provides philanthropic advisory services, and develops and leads initiatives to tackle critical community issues. It is in compliance with the Council on Foundations’ national standards for community foundations. The Foundation has awarded over $110 million in grants to nonprofits in Fairfield County and beyond.
