DANBURY, CT - The Western Connecticut State University Department of Music will host the sixth annual James Furman Honors Recital at noon on Wednesday, March 6, in Ives Concert Hall in White Hall on the university’s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The concert will be free and the public is invited.

Student performers have been selected through an audition process. The freshman class winner is percussionist David Pelaggi, of Derby; the sophomore class winner is percussionist Kevin Thompson, of Southington; the junior class winner is vocalist Benedetta Cordaro, of Stamford; and the senior class winner is jazz guitarist Michael Godette Jr., of Seymour. Each soloist will receive a James Furman scholarship. The chamber music winner is a flute group, the runner-up is a horn quartet, and the jazz group winner is the Jeff Siegel combo. Members of the chamber ensembles each will receive a Friends of Music Award.

Furman was born in Louisville, Ky., and earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music education from the University of Louisville. Furman joined the WCSU faculty in 1965, where he remained until his death in 1989.
