BRIDGEPORT, CT - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers (12-10-1-1), proud AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, suffered a 4-1 loss to the Rochester Americans (14-5-3-3) on Sunday afternoon at Webster Bank Arena.

Casey Bailey scored Bridgeport’s lone tally with a power-play goal in the second period, but it wasn’t enough as the Sound Tigers fell for the fourth straight game (0-3-0-1). Kristers Gudlevskis (4-5-2) stopped 29 of 33 shots between the pipes.
BOX SCORE

The Americans took control early on by scoring twice in the opening frame. Zach Redmond got the visitors going exactly halfway through the first period with the first of two power-play goals for the Amerks on the afternoon. With Ryan Bourque in the box for slashing, Seth Griffith moved the puck to the point before passing to Redmond, who rifled in a one-timer that sailed just over Gudlevskis’ glove.

More than seven minutes later, Rochester made it 2-0 with a shorthanded goal courtesy of Colin Blackwell. Nick Baptiste began the attack when he charged ahead and led an offensive rush down the ice. As Baptiste lowered his shoulder and approached the net, he tried to force a shot in that was deflected by the defense and bobbled around the crease, which allowed Blackwell to knock in the bouncing puck at 17:27.

The Sound Tigers cut their deficit in half when Bailey beat goaltender Adam Wilcox at 7:51 of the middle frame. With Matt Tennyson in the box for slashing, Bailey received a pass from the stick of Michael Dal Colle, who set up Bailey beautifully in the slot. Bailey turned and fired in a wrist shot that went top shelf over Wilcox’s stick to make 2-1.

Rochester added some issuance in the final frame and scored two more goals to cap its 4-1 win. Griffith, who assisted on the first goal of the contest, capitalized on a rebound in front of the net produced by a slap shot from Redmond at the blue line. It was Griffith’s third goal in six AHL games this season, which put the Amerks on top 3-1 at 2:09.

Redmond put the icing on top and scored his second power-play goal at 17:45 of the third period with John Stevens in the box for hooking. Redmond received a pass from Stuart Percy and fired in a slap shot that flew past the glove of Gudlevskis for his sixth tally of the season overall.
The Sound Tigers finished the game 1-for-6 on the power play and 1-for-3 on the penalty kill. Bridgeport outshot Rochester 37-33, while Wilcox (3-2-3) made 36 saves on 37 shots.

The afternoon also turned physical in the second period when Ben Holmstrom and Dalton Smith dropped the gloves at the 3:10 mark. A second altercation ensued at 18:16 of the middle frame as Smith fought again, this time against Seth Helgeson. Smith was given an automatic game misconduct for his second fight.
