Gwinyai Zengeni originally worked at Shippan Racquet Club as a tennis coach and Director of Summer Programs, but now is now returning as the Director of Tennis for the upcoming fall season.

Gwinyai was one of the top ranked junior players in Zimbabwe growing up and represented his country in prestigious international junior competitions including the Orange Bowl. He went on to play Division I tennis at Morehead State University in Kentucky, where he graduated with an MBA and BBA before serving as an assistant coach for the MSU men’s and women’s teams.

Having coached professionally for the last 11 years in Connecticut and New York, he is known as a instructor who can help players at any level improve. In addition to working with players in local USTA leagues, he has also coached top ranked high school and junior players throughout the region. Gwinyai even has experience working with internationally ranked players on the WTA and ATP Tour, perhaps most noticeably with local star Todd Paul, who reached the No. 1 NCAA ranking in 2008 before competing on the ATP Tour for three years.

“I’m excited to be coming back to Shippan Racquet Club in this new role to join an already established and successful program,” he said.

Gwinyai is a USPTA certified instructor who has attended USTA High Performance programs in Boston and NYC. He is also certified as a strength and conditioning coach from Pat Etcheberry’s program in Florida and previously served on the Adidas advisory staff. In addition, Gwinyai also holds a commercial pilot certificate.
