Central Islip, NY - The Bridgeport Bluefish (16-13) suffered the first loss against the Long Island Ducks (18-10) in 2012 on Saturday Night at Bethpage Ballpark. The road team lost 15-5.

The Ducks big rally came in the third inning when the squad sent twelve batters to the plate and scored eight times. Long Island picked up a two-run homer from James McOwen to rightcenter, Matt Esquivel produced a two-run double to leftcenter and Bryant Nelson had a two-run double to rightcenter in the frame.

After Long Island pushed one more runner across in the fourth to increase the margin to nine, Bridgeport responded with an RBI single to right from Pedro Lopez and a two-run jolt from Prentice Redman to leftcenter. His third shot of the year closed the gap to three.

The Ducks pushed one more run across in the fifth before the Bluefish were able to put some more pressure on Long Island in the sixth by pushing two more runners to the plate. With the bases loaded, Kennard Jones singled to right to reload the bags and make the score 10-4. A sacrifice fly to right by Pedro Lopez brought in the fifth run of the night.

Back-to-back extra-base hits for Ray Navarette and McOwen in the sixth allowed another run to cross the plate. In the seventh inning, McOwen served an infield single to second with the bases loaded to bring home two more. Dan Lyons finished the Ducks scoring with a two-run blast to left in the eighth.

Bluefish starter, Raymar Diaz (0-3), suffered the loss as the righthanded starter allowed eight runs, eight hits and a walk while fanning one in two-and-a-third innings. Wynn Pelzer, Mike Tarsi and Jesse English combined to surrender seven runs on nine hits and five walks while fanning six in the final five-and-two-thirds frames.

Ducks starter, Bob Zimmermann (3-1), picked up the win for the home team. The hurler delivered five-and-two-thirds frames and Bridgeport produced five runs on seven hits and five walks while fanning three times. Jared Lansford, Eric Niesen and Joe Esposito came out of the bullpen to provide three-and-two-thirds scoreless baseball on three hits, two walks and a strikeout.
